While most of the power supplied to the PJM grid comes from traditional electric generators fueled by coal, natural gas, nuclear and oil, renewable and alternative energies continue to grow. Their growth is sparking new technologies to help maximize their use.

Here are the different types of renewable energies at work in PJM:

PJM's Emerging Technology InitiativesHow much of each of these sources is used on the grid? The numbers vary. You can view real-time information about the current generation fuel mix on PJM’s Markets and Operations homepage. For reference, one megawatt is approximately the amount needed to meet the energy demand of 800 to 1,000 homes. The infographic below shows what one megawatt hour can do.
