How is the source and sink in the subsystem file used to calculate distribution factor?



Answer:

The source and sink are defined in the .sub file as SUBSYSTEM ‘IMPORT’ and SUBSYSTEM ‘EXPORT’ for evaluating PJM generation projects. The ‘EXPORT’ subsystem (i.e., PJM ‘Source’) defines all of the PJM generation to participate in the test that is eligible to be ramped up for deliverability. The ‘IMPORT’ subsystem (i.e., PJM ‘Sink’) defines where to sink all the PJM generation being ramped up by the test. There are separate subsystems for MISO generation projects (e.g., SUBSYSTEM ‘QUEUEEXPORT’/‘QUEUEIMPORT’). The distribution factor (DFAX) depends on the flowgate as well, because each contingency reconfigures the electrical network. The DFAX is basically a measure of the “electrical distance” from the generator to the facility. The closer the generator to the facility, the greater the DFAX; the farther the generator is from the facility, the smaller the DFAX.
